Have a cigarette.

Smoke and Guns panel.

Smoke and Guns is fun to draw. I hope, when I'm finally done with it, it's also fun to read.

"Done".

I wonder when I'll be done with it. Hopefully, this year. In the summer, if everything glues together in this crazy puzzle my life (and everybody else's, it seems) turned to. It would be really great to have the book in my hands by the time I arrive in San Diego for the next big Comic Book Convention. Do you know this is the only time of the year I actually take a vacation (in order to go to the convention, so maybe it's not a vacation after all, it's more like "far away job")? Sometimes I have the impression it's the only time of the year that I leave the house. Luckily, it's only an impression. Luckily, despite the very long hour involved, I love what I do. And this is the year I set myself to do more comics than I ever done before. Smoke and Guns is my first step towards that goal.

AND...

Today is Brazil's nacional comic book day.

A story set in winter.

background for an animation project we're currently involved.

There's something wonderful in creating worlds. Sometimes, the best part of a job is to imagine what is happening with the figures you're drawing, where they are and what might have happened before. During the making of something, it's not unusual for us to be swallowed by the mood of the story we're telling. It's like remembering something that really did happen to you and that you treasure fondly.

This is a little different from what we usually do. First, we're the "background artists" in this animation. On top of that, this "no lines, just shapes and colors" style, really makes all the images look uniquely distinct from our comic book work.

If we continue to work with this great animation company, we're in great danger of getting used of imagining our work in motion instead of frozen and set on the comic book page.

Looking in from outside.

Script by Adrian Sanders

Panel 1:
He stops outside the cafe window, the warmth casting a welcoming glow on his person. He looks up, peering in. The wind picks up, it is clear that he is very cold and uncomfortable.

Panel 2:
He shivers.

A silent good bye.

Sometimes, I really like the stuff I do.

Work out.

I need to work out more often. So does this chubby version of Batman I did. And it's because he's chubby that I, skinny as a stick, should workout my drawing skills, so next time I have to draw a strong super-hero, he's not out of shape. Unless I want the villain to win.

And then I wonder: do villain still win these days? I must admit I'm a little behind my reading on monthlies, but to me it seems that most super heroes may lose fights to themselves (those troubled super human beings), since no villain wins.

Will Eisner died!
